Doot, Doot - Freur

In the summer of 1983, in Los Angeles, KROQ was king. For those of you who don't know that station, KROQ (106.7) was the biggest and one of the best radio stations of the early '80s. Their tagline was "Rock of The Eighties" and they meant it. They were, what I consider, a station that had the balls to play new music and didn't worry about what people thought. They played most songs before any other station would dare in L.A. (another station that would play the songs right after KROQ tested them out was KIQQ - 100.3 FM). Ahh, the good old days of radio.

One song that was heard occasionally was "Doot, Doot" by Freur. Originally, their name was an unusual squiggle but they came to realize, pretty quickly, that they had to have an actual name (a lesson learned by Prince a few years later). Anyway, this song is one of my favorites and I was fortunate enough to find it on a Richard Blade collection years ago (that and "Belly Of The Whale" by Burning Sensations - awesome!). It's such a haunting song to me, I love to let it play over and over.

Funny how these songs matter, even all these years later. I am sitting here listening to it. I'm not sure if you can find it anywhere but if you do find it, it's a rare gem.

I just heard part of this song (for the first time in a LONG time) on a cellphone commercial tonight. And so I went searching... I loved the song from the 80's... and couldn't for the life of me remember what it was or who did it. Finally found it, and subsequently found your post.

You say it so well... that it's funny how certain songs like this "matter".

What a shame that the group (Freur) didn't go on to do lots of stuff like this. I'm currently on a search to find samples from either of their two albums.

    Peace!

Thanks, for the comment! I'd be interested to know what commercial it was in, don't think I've seen that. I wish I had their whole albums, though. This one song was the only one I ever heard, but I'd be interested to know what the rest of them sounded like.
